Assistive Technology (AT) Training
Latest Assistive Technology Information Seminars
Disability Services will host three more training seminars for students with dyslexia/learning difficulties during the summer. The aim of the seminars is to inform students of the technologies available to assist them with their studies.
The seminars are aimed at second level students with dyslexia and will include an optional information session on 'applying to college as a student with a disability/learning difficulty'.
The dates for the seminars are 26th July and 3rd & 4th of August.
The seminars will focus on Freeware and each participant will receive a USB key with all the Freeware used on the day. There is no charge for these seminars.

Student AT Training
After an AT assessment is completed each student will receive a customised AT training plan. Both the student and the trainer will be asked to sign the training plan, agree the times and dates of the proposed training as well as the expected outcomes from the training. The training plan will cover all areas of AT identified in the assessment
For students who do not receive an AT assessment or an AT training plan there will be group training sessions held throughout the lifetime of the project covering specific hardware and software's, such as Text Help read and Write Gold, reading pens, speaking dictionaries etc.
Staff AT Training
Staff assistive technology training courses completed
· A 2 day overview course on Assistive Technology for students with disability in third level was held in June. This course was designed as an introductory course for AT and IT support personal in the Shannon Consortium Institutions.
· TextHelp Read and Write Gold Version 8.1 Train the Trainers Program. 9 staff members from the Shannon Consortium Institutions were trained.
Ongoing Staff Training
· The Enable Ireland High Tech Assistive Technology Training Course is running in the Univeristy of Limerick. This course is run by Enable Ireland and facilitated by ATAC. This is the first time that the course has been run outside Dublin. The course is been run from 19th to 23rd Jan and 18th to 21st May 2009. There has been substantial interest shown in the course and it is currently full. It is planned to run the course again in UL in 2010, further details can be found on the Enable Ireland Assistive Technology Training Course website
Further Staff Training

Further software and hardware specific training will be facilitated in the ATAC centre throughout the lifetime of the project, such as training on Dragon Naturally Speaking, Zoomtext, Inspiration etc.
