UL Special Mathematics Entrance Examination 2009

20th August, 2009 (2.30pm - 5.30pm)

This examination is for students who achieve sufficient CAO entry points and satisfy all other entrance requirements, but who do not achieve the requisite grade in Mathematics in the Leaving Certificate.  Successful candidates will be allowed entry into ALL Faculty of Science and Engineering undergraduate degree programmes.

Candidates who pass this special examination are deemed to have satisfied the Mathematics entry requirement.  It will be corrected on a pass/fail basis and no additional points will be awarded.

There will be two versions of the examination paper available depending on the minimum mathematics requirement of the undergraduate programme.

H : This paper will cover the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Mathematics syllabus excluding Section B on paper 2. This is the relevant examination for entry to programmes which have a minimum entry requirement of a C3 in Higher Level Mathematics.

O : This paper will cover the Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level Mathematics syllabus excluding Section B on paper 2. This is the relevant examination for entry to programmes which have  minimum entry requirement of B3 or above in Ordinary Level Mathematics.

Both examinations will be of 3 hours duation and candidates will be required to answer 6 of 8 questions.

Non-programmable calculators only will be allowed ( as per Leaving Certificate regulations )

Please note photo-ID will be required to gain entry to the exam hall. Venue will be notified by e-mail/phone.
