Richard S. Stack, M.D.,F.A.C.C.
Richard Stack is a co-founder of Synergy Life Science Partners. Additionally, Richard is President of Synecor, LLC, a business generator and financial incubator of new medical device companies. In the past 10 years, Richard has co-founded and invested in five major medical device companies, including Synecor. Richard is recognized as an international thought leader in the medical technology field. He has authored over 360 manuscripts, book chapters and scientific abstracts. Richard is also Professor Emeritus of Medicine in Cardiology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he spent his entire academic medical career, since 1981, as Founder and Director of Duke Interventional Cardiology. Richard retired early from his academic career to join the investment community with the formation of Synecor, LLC in 2000. However, he has since been given adjunct full professorships at both University of Miami and University of North Carolina and continues to maintain medical licensure in both North Carolina and California.
William N. Starling
William N. Starling received his BS degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MBA degree from the University of Southern California. He began his 30 year career in the medical technology device industry at American Edwards Laboratories (Edwards LifeSciences - NYSE:EW). He was subsequently part of the founding management team and Director of Marketing for Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (acquired by Guidant/Abbott), and was a cofounder, Vice President and Board member of Ventritex, Inc. (acquired by St. Jude Medical). In 1992, Mr. Starling was a cofounder and Chairman of the Board of Directors and President/CEO of Cardiac Pathways Corporation (acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation), and was responsible for raising significant capital from the early venture capital period through an initial public offering in 1996.Mr. Starling has been primarily responsible for raising over million in private and public capital for the companies that he has co-founded and the combined revenues of these companies exceeds billion annually. In addition to the companies that he has co-founded, Mr. Starling has made private investments in the initial equity financings of over 40 startup companies and has served/is a Board member in over 20 early stage life science companies.
John Onopchenko, MBA
John Onopchenko is a co-founder of Synergy Life Science Partners. Prior to co-founding Synergy, John was Vice President and lead medical device investor with Johnson & Johnson's venture capital subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation ("JJDC"). Additionally, John served on the Management Committee of JJDC. His portfolio company realizations include: Epicor, Novacept, Digirad (NASDAQ: DRAD), Genyx, Nuvasive (NASDAQ: NUVA), Vascular Control Systems, Vivant Medical and Volcano Corporation (NASDAQ: VOLC).Over the last 30 years, as an operating leader for both General Electric and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), John has progressively increased his management responsibilities through the successful development and commercialization of six new-to-the world technologies including surgical stapling, endoscopic surgical devices, surgical lasers, magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy and gas plasma sterilization. His global leadership experiences include general management, business and product development, operations, manufacturing, marketing and sales management.
Mudit K. Jain, Ph.D.
Mudit has more than twelve years of operational experience in various functional roles including research, product development, business development, M&A, and venture capital. Most recently, Mudit was an Executive Director with Johnson and Johnson Development Corporation as part of their Management team and led the firm's medical device investments in the Midwest and East Coast and had Board responsibilities for JJDC investments. Prior to JJDC, Mudit was a Corporate Director with Corporate Office of Science and Technology at JNJ, where he worked with JNJ's Chief Scientific Officer and was instrumental in evaluating and assessing early stage growth opportunities for the medical device franchises across JNJ. Prior to JNJ, Mudit was with Guidant Corporation's Cardiac Rhythm Management Division and led their efforts to develop and evaluate new medical device technologies in cardiac ablation, heart failure, and regenerative therapies. Mudit has also worked as a consultant to Epicor, Inc. (part of St. Jude Medical), Cardiac Pathways Corporation (acquired by Boston Scientific), and Medtronic. Mudit holds seven issued patents and has published numerous articles in peer reviewed publications.
