Dr Mary Shire, Vice President Research, heads the Research Office and provides strategic leadership in terms of strategy development and implementation. The mission of the Research Office is to facilitate the growth of excellent, impactful and innovative research, postgraduate education and knowledge transfer activities at UL.
The office is divided into three divisions.
- Research Support Services provides assistance and intelligence to researchers on a range of funded research programmes supported by national and international agencies. A core role of RSS is to support researchers to identify and apply for research funding. To this end, RSS is responsible for disseminating information on funding opportunities to researchers and providing advice and support relating to funding applications.
- The Graduate School supports the promotion, development and delivery of research and taught postgraduate programmes across UL. The unit coordinates and shares responsibility for the enrolment and progression of postgraduate students with other service divisions across the university.
- The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) supports and develops the innovative activity emanating from the university. The TTO provides intellectual property management services and facilitates the development of research links with industry. The role of the TTO is to ensure that opportunities for the commercial development of UL's intellectual property are pursued and implemented.
