Call for Expressions of Interest to Serve on Royal Irish Academy Multidisciplinary Committees

The Royal Irish Academy is seeking expressions of interest from those interested in serving on its newly established Multidisciplinary Committees.
There will be ten Committees under the following titles:

1. Climate Change and Environmental Sciences
2. Coiste Léann na Gaeilge, Litríocht na Gaeilge agus na gCultúr Ceilteach
3. Engineering and Computer Science
4. Ethical, Political, Legal and Philosophical Studies
5. Geosciences and Geographical Sciences
6. Historical Studies (including Classics, Near Eastern and Archaeology)
7. Life and Medical Sciences
8. Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences
9. Social Sciences
10. Study of Languages, Literature, Culture and Communication

The purpose of these committees, operating on an all-island basis, is to:
* Build public engagement and understanding of scholarly activities in the sciences, humanities and social sciences
* Strengthen the contribution and influence of scholarly knowledge and academic research in public discussion and the making of public policy
* Approach its activities on an all island basis

The term of office of these committees will be four years, with a review and some rotation in membership after two years. It is expected that the Committees will meet three or four times per year. The committees will be appointed and meet in Autumn 2014.
