 Introduction

The Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989 legislated for the establishment of the Health and Safety Authority. The Act requires every employer to ensure the safety, health and welfare of employees regarding the design of the place of work, design of plant and machinery, provision of safe systems of work, control or elimination of hazards, and the services of a "competent person". The course content has been designed to satisfy the knowledge requirements specified in the HETPEP (Harmonising European Training Programmes for Ergonomics Professionals) document.

Objectives

  • Professional Competence is to be obtained in: Safety area: anatomy and physiology, workplace hazards, human-machine systems, safety analysis and assurance, and occupational hygiene.
  • Ergonomics: human reliability, human performance, workplace design, work psychology.
  • Techniques: instrumentation, statistics and design of experiments, work analysis.

Measurements
Human Reliability Instrumentation for Safety, Human Performance, Workplace Hazards, Anatomy and Physiology Foundations, Human-Machine Systems

Analysis
Design and Analysis of Experiments 1, Design and Analysis of Experiments 2, Safety and Hygiene, Work Psychology, Work Analysis Techniques, Occupational Ergonomics.

Careers

The graduates of this programme are expected to play a prominent part in enhancing the safety, health and welfare of workers in Europe. As a result there will be a net financial gain for the employers and better working conditions for the employees.

Entrance Requirements

Graduate Diploma:
A science degree, including a nursing or a psychology degree (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland).

Masters degree:
A good honours degree in the above. Students who attain a 2.1 Honours standard may apply for transfer to the Masters programme and complete a Thesis and Conference Paper.

  • Certified English translations of your transcripts/certificates where the originals are in a language other than English.
  • A copy of your birth certificate (long document)
