On Thursday, March 31st, supporters and friends of the University of Limerick attended an intimate black-tie fundraising event on campus. The Chancellor's Concert, now in its third year, is hosted by UL Chancellor Peter Malone and raises funds each year for the University.
Speaking at the event, Chancellor Peter Malone said: "I am very impressed by the generosity and support shown by our friends and sponsors here tonight - the University is very fortunate to have such strong backing from the community".
Following dinner in the University's Millstream restaurant, guests were led by a piper across the Pedestrian Living Bridge to the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance building. Here, in the magnificent Tower Theatre, guests were treated to a performance by Mezzo-Soprano Paula Murrihy, one of Ireland's most talented singers. Paula, who is a native of County Kerry, works all over the world and has performed at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Chicago Opera Theater, the Wexford Festival Opera, the Aldeburgh Festival; Carnegie Hall; and as part of the Tanglewood season for Boston Symphony Orchestra. Paula joined Oper Frankfurt as a member of their ensemble in September 2008.
After the concert, the evening finished with a post-concert reception where guests mingled and chatted.
