Annual Punch Lecture Sizes Up the New Thomond Park

Tom Cosgrove

The annual UL Punch Engineering Lecture drew a packed audience at the University Concert Hall as Tom Cosgrove, Structural Engineer for the newly referbished Thomond Park Rugby Ground detailed some of the amazing engineering aspects of the build.

With the first Munster Match taking place in Thomond Park on 4th October, Mr Cosgrove outlined the unique structural aspects of the new stadium including its 150mtr rainbow trusses, its 26,000 capacity and the curved nature of the stand.

"All building on the new Thomond Park took place without any interference with the pitch, which is hallowed ground in Limerick - in fact no builder or tradesperson working on the site set one foot on the pitch during the entire construction" said Mr Cosgrove.
