Cuban Ambassador to Ireland Noel Carrillo and Leonor De la Rosa of the Centre of International Collaboration with the Cuban Ministry of Culture recently visited the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. The visit came about through an initiative entitled Una Corda - the Irish/Cuban Piano Project, set up by Galway musician Ciaran Ryan and RTÉ lyric fm's Ellen Cranitch. Una Corda is partnered with the Ministry of Culture in Cuba to restore the 'National Workshop for Piano Repair and Restoration' - a project which has facilitated local Cuban craftsmen to repair pianos which have fallen into disrepair due to that country's humid weather conditions and trade embargos. The delegation's visit to the Irish World Academy is to explore possible collaborations between the Academy and the Una Corda initiative.
