Bulgarian Ambassador Opens Exhibition at UL

Bulgarian Ambassador

Pictured are Ambassador Emil Yalnazov and Professor Don Barry, UL President.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Ireland Ambassador Emil Yalnazov and his wife Professor Silvia Nikolova-Yalnazova were on campus recently to officially open a documentary exhibition depicting James David Bourchier, an Irish journalist and political activist whose life and career became closely associated with the consolidation of the young Bulgarian state in the late 19th Century.

Bourchier's name became largely known, when he served as Balkan correspondent for the Irish Times between 1890 and 1915 during which time he lived in Sofia.  His profound knowledge of the region earned his respect among the local politicians and allowed him to act on several occasions as intermediary in Bulgarian, Balkan and European politics.

The exhibition will be displayed in the lower ground floor of the foundation at UL for the coming weeks and is open to the public free of charge.
