Irish World Academy of Music and Dance Building

Irish World Academy Building

Building contracts have this morning been signed for the construction of the €20million Irish World Academy of Music and Dance building at the University of Limerick. The unique building has been designed specifically to combine the elements of teaching and performance, by leading French Architect Daniel Cordier, who was appointed following an international design competition in 2004.  Michael McNamara & Company Ltd. today signed contracts to handle the building of the structure, which will commence immediately.

 

Chemistry Teachers go Back to the College Lab !

Chemistry teachers from around the country went back to school when they attended the Chemical Demonstration Workshop at the University of Limerick this week.  The Chemical and Environment Sciences (CES) Department at UL ran a weeklong series of workshops for secondary school chemistry teachers providing them with new ways of bringing the science of chemistry alive to their students.

Secondary School Students from around the country descovered how the experts do it !  Students on the UL Science Summer Camp participated in a day of forensics science emonstrations and experiments at the University of Limerick recently.

 

Inventing the Future !

Mechatronics Conference

Modern-day inventors and engineers from around the world arrived in Ireland recently for 'Mechatronics08' - the 11th Mechatronics Forum Biennial International Conference, was hosted this year by the University of Limerick.  The 100 Conference delegates received information on new inventions and research developments in areas including robotics, sustainability, aerospace applications and biomedical applications, with 69 papers on research and developments in mechatronics delivered over the three days of the Conference.

Piers Devereux  CEO of Olympus Life Research Ireland was in Westpark Shannon recently to officially launch the ULearning Skillnet programme. ULearning is a convergence of academics and industry working together to establish modular flexible learning for individuals.
