European Language Award for UL Department of Languages and Cultural Studies

Language Award   A University of Limerick project, which developed a CD Rom to aid students in reading and writing Japanese, has been awarded the coveted European Language Label Award.  
The project, entitled 'Interactive Multimedia Courseware for Reading and Writing Japanese Script', was developed by the Technical Communication Section and the Japanese Section of the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies (LCS) at UL.

UL 2007 Honorary Conferrings

Honorary Doctorates 2007 Dr Miriam Hederman O'Brien, former Chancellor of the University of Limerick, art expert Patrick J Murphy and Dr Noel Lindsay, former Chairman of the HEA, were conferred with Honorary Doctorates at the University of Limerick in October 2007.

Ireland's First Graduate Medical School Opens its Doors

Medical Class   Ireland's first ever Graduate Medical Programme started at the University of Limerick in September 2007.  32 students, including one student from Canada arrived on campus and commenced the first of their classes in UL's BM BS Graduate Medical Programme.

Staff of UL release Traditional Music CD to Aid St Vincent's School

CD Launch   Staff members from the University of Limerick, who formed a traditional music group earlier this year, have recorded a CD to raise money for St Vincent's School in Lisnagry.  Crúinniú is a CD recorded by the group of the same name, consisting of staff and faculty members from across all areas of the University.  The group was formed as an Irish World Academy outreach initiative, which brought over 25 members of the campus community together to engage in weekly classes/sessions of Irish traditional music, facilitated by students and staff of the Irish World Academy.

UL Alumni Members Publish Spanish Text Book

Spanish Book   Two UL Alumni members have recently launched 'La Pluma'  a Spanish text book for secondary schools.  Livia Healy and Ciara Rock are both graduates of the UL Graduate Diploma's in Education (Languages) have launched their joint publication La Pluma.
