Request an Item for Inclusion in Short Loans / Reprints

Short Loan/Reprint request forms are available to download as a word document or you can get them from the service desk in the Library by contacting ext. 2158.

Short Loans

  • Please complete a separate request form for each title you require on short loan.
  • Please indicate on the form the number of copies required and the length of time the title should remain in the collection.
  • The library recommends a 3-day loan where at all possible. 3-day loan materials are integrated with the main library collections.
  • You can return the form by email libraryissuedesk@ul.ie or via internal post.
  • Please check that the item(s) is/are in stock. You can do this by checking the library catalogue and the journals listing.
  • The library recommends that core texts, which students are requested to buy, should not be included in the short loan collection.

Reprints

  • Please forward a copy of the article with the form.
  • You can return the form and article via internal post.
  • Please ensure the item is not already in stock. You can do this by checking the library catalogue and the journals listing.

Background to the Short Loan & Reprint Collections

The Short Loan collection allows faculty to specify a much shorter loan period for heavily used library materials to enable wider access for their students. The collection is located on the ground floor opposite the service desk.

The Reprint collection (in the same location) typically contains copies of journal articles or book chapters that are not already available in the library in hard copy, electronically, or on the web.  All requests must be in line with current copyright legislation or licensing agreements.

The Library encourages faculty to buy sufficient library copies of materials (within reasonable limits) that they anticipate will be in heavy demand, or recommend students purchase the material if it is essential to their course-work.
