  • If you do not have a valid computer account, please follow the instructions on how to set up a computer account which are listed on the Information Technology Division (ITD) website.
  • Once you have created a computer account, log onto a computer on campus to make sure your computer account works.
  • Sometimes users experience problems with their password when trying to login to the library electronic resources off campus even though their password is working for other off campus access systems. We recommend in this case that users reset their password, you can do this on campus while logging on to a computer or off campus by following instructions at this link https://offsite.ul.ie/passwordreset/StudentChangePassword.aspx ,  alternatively you can email the Information Technology Student Support mailbox itss@ul.ie for assistance with changing your password.

CAN I ACCESS ARTICLES THROUGH GOOGLE SCHOLAR OFF CAMPUS?

Yes, if the library subscribes to the content in question you should be able to view it from a Google Scholar search

  • You will firstly need to set up University of Limerick Library as your Institutional library in the settings in Google Scholar (Go to settings and then Library Links)
  • Once you have set up University of Limerick as your library, you will then see the following text "Full -Text @ UL Library" when you do a search beside content the library subscribes to
  • Once you select this link you will be prompted to login  https://login.proxy.lib.ul.ie
  • Login with your valid  UL computer account

Alternatively, install a bookmarklet in your browser.  To install the bookmark:

  • In Firefox: click and drag this UL EZproxy bookmark link to your bookmarks toolbar or right click on the link and select "Bookmark This Link"
  • In Safari or Google Chrome: click and drag this UL EZproxy bookmark link to your bookmarks bar

Please note that javascript must be enabled in your browser.

Once you have added the bookmark, you can click on an article link and then click on the bookmark. You will then be prompted to login with your UL username and password. Once we subscribe to the journal you will get access to the full text.

HOW DO I VIEW MY EndNote LINKS WHEN OFF CAMPUS?

You may have URLs/links to articles or e-books given to you by lecturers or in your EndNote desktop or Web libraries which work perfectly on campus but when off campus you are asked to login, even if you have already logged in via EZproxy. This is because when you login off campus, the URL of every library resource you see is automatically altered to included "proxy.lib.ul.ie". This tells the database provider that you are affiliated with UL and are entitled to full text as normal.

If you click a URL such as http://isc.sagepub.com/content/42/2/78, on campus you will be able to access the article but off campus you will be asked to login because you are not recognised.

Instead you should insert http://proxy.lib.ul.ie/login?url= into the link at the beginning of the article URL e.g.http://proxy.lib.ul.ie/login?url=http://isc.sagepub.com/content/42/2/78. This will allow you to access the full text but it will only work if you have logged in via EZproxy first.

This will also work for DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) which are stable URLs to the same publisher URLs. For example, the above article can be found using the DOI 10.1177/10534512060420020601, i.e.http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/10534512060420020601 or off campus at http://proxy.lib.ul.ie/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/10534512060420020601.

HOW DO I VIEW THE LIBRARY WEBSITE IF IT WON'T WORK IN INTERNET EXPLORER?

If you are having problems viewing the library webpage using Internet Explorer, if e.g. the page appears blank with just the navigation for the website appearing we recommend that you switch to a different browser e.g. Firefox or Chrome. Alternatively you can try refreshing the page in Internet Explorer or clicking on the "Compatibility View" in the toolbar to see if this solves the problem

HOW DO I GET HELP WITH ANY OF THE LIBRARY'S ELECTRONIC RESOURCES?

If none of the above helps you, please contact us via the Ask Us/ Tell Us service or email us at  libinfo@ul.ie with a screenshot of the error message which you are seeing, so that we can investigate it further.

If you need assistance with searching the Library's electronic resources you should contact your Faculty Librarian
