Location
The University campus is located on the banks of the river Shannon, at the heart of the 650-acre National Technological Park, three miles above the ancient city of Limerick. The University is composed of four constituent Faculties: the Kemmy Business School, the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, the Faculty of Education & Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. UL is also home to the Irish Academy of World Music and Dance.

History of the University of Limerick
The first University of Limerick students were admitted in 1972, and the University of Limerick was granted full university powers by legislation enacted by the Irish Parliament in 1989. It is the first new University established since the foundation of the State. Today, some 12,000 students study at the University, of whom over 9,852 are full-time students. The development of the University is guided and supported by the University of Limerick Foundation Board, composed of international leaders from business, the professions and the arts.
Mission Statement
The pursuit of excellence in teaching and research to the highest level has been the prime mission of the University from the outset. Implementation of this mission has been constantly conditioned by the belief in relevance, as new programmes of teaching and research are introduced, particular attention is given to those areas judged to be of strategic benefit to the economic, social and cultural development of Ireland.
UL is situated in the west of Ireland at the neck of the Shannon Estuary. The easiest way to reach it is to fly to Shannon Airport (SNN). Shannon Airport is served by direct flights from Dublin, London (Stansted, Gatwick) Manchester, New York JFK, Chicago, Moscow and a number of other cities. Alternatively, fly direct to Dublin and from there to Shannon. Visitors from certain UK cities Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol and some others) can fly to Dublin and from there on to Shannon. To get to the university from the airport, you can take a bus to Limerick city centre which will drop passengers off at Henry Street. From Henry Street, you must take another bus for the university campus. You must walk a short distance to William Street to get the bus service to UL (see below). Journey time from Shannon to Limerick, a distance of 22km, is about forty to fifty minutes on the bus while the journey time from Limerick to the University is about fifteen to twenty minutes on the bus. Alternatively you can get a taxi from the airport to the University which will take approximately 30 minutes and will cost approximately ?35-?40. If you fly in to Dublin Airport (DUB) it is preferable to fly on to Shannon (a 40 minute flight) and then take a bus or taxi from there.
By Train
If travelling by train you will arrive at Colbert Station, Limerick. You can then take a taxi to the University from the taxi rank outside the train station.
By Bus
Buses depart from the city centre on William street and leave for the university every 20 minutes (approximately)
There are two types of buses:-
1. The State-run Bus Eireann buses are white with "Bus Eireann" printed on the side and are marked University (single fare costs approximately €1.60)
2. A private bus company also operates a service to the university campus. The bus is marked "Euro Coach" (single fare costs €1.20 each way)
By Car
The university is located off the main Limerick to Dublin road (N7) about 6 km from the city centre.
Directions from Limerick city centre: follow signs for the Dublin Road until you reach the outskirts of the city where you will then see clearly marked signs for the University of Limerick.
Directions from Dublin: follow the signs for Limerick city until you see signs for the University of Limerick as you approach the Castletroy area which is locacted approximately 6km from the city centre.
