ITD provides a range of computing services for students. PCs are provided for students to use in a variety of clusters throughout the University giving access to MS Office 2016 and Internet Explorer together with general-purpose and course-specific software programs. PCs run Microsoft Windows 7 software.
Students with any problems related to using the equipment should go to one of the Computer Laboratory Attendants located in the student PC clusters. Computer Laboratory Attendants work Mon - Fri 08:45 to 22:30 during the academic term.
In order to ensure reliability of the student clusters the software on the computers is only changed during the vacation preceding the academic year. Normally no changes are made to the clusters during term time. A formal process
has been defined to ascertain the software needs of staff scheduled to use the clusters and any additional software required is checked to ensure:
that it works in the Windows 7 environment
that it is properly licenced
that it is supportable
before it is added to the software build for the clusters.
