The Learning and Develpoment Section is an integral part of the University's Human Resources Division whose role it is, is to support the key corporate objective of the University of ensuring excellent performance through progressive development. Our aim is to support the University's strategic plan by delivering focused training and development solutions to all employees that will enable the achievement of these objectives. This ensures that we deliver on a key corporate objective that "all faculty and staff are enabled to achieve their full potential through valuing diversity and equality of opportunity". A further aim is to ensure the most effective use of the talents, skills and abilities of our employees by supporting employees to maximise the contribution they can make. The Learning and Develpment Section aims to foster close relationships with academic and administrative departments to support them in achieving their objectives.
The Learning and Development Section has responsibility for designing and delivering the annual Corporate Learning & Development Plan within the University, aligned with the strategic goals of the University and in support of the key development needs as identified under the Performance & Development Review System (PDRs). This programme of training and development activities for the personal and professional development of all employees is available under Training Programmes. Employees may apply for a place on advertised courses, workshops and Lunch & Learn Soundbytes by emailing tdbookings@ul.ie or by contacting any member of the LearningSection - details below.
The Key aims of the Learning and Develpoment Section are:
* To ensure that the employees of the University have the skills and knowledge they require to contribute effectively to the key Strategic Goals of the University.
* To support managers in identifying individual staff development needs through the PDRs Process
* To support individual employees to develop the skills and knowledge associated with their job roles
* To support individuals in developing their careers within the University
* Make the most of the development opportunities open to them.
The Training Team operates in a number of ways:
* By providing on-going support with the implementation of the Performance & Development Review System (PDRs)
* By providing a range of development programmes and workshops that are open to all members of staff. The annual Training & Development Plan is developed and refined each year to reflect the priorities of the University and the staff development needs identified through the PDRs.
* To provide a range of courses to support personal, professional and leadership development e.g. Executive Team Leadership Development Programme; Academic Leadership Development Programme; HOD Orientation Programmes; Personal Development Programme for Women; Management Development Workshops; Dignity & Respect Training; PDRs Training etc.
* Through the management of the University Mentoring Scheme.
* By providing on-going Career Coaching.
* By providing help, advice and guidance on a range of organisational and personal development issues, needs and priorities.
* By encouraging employees to develop their skills and talents to enable them to progress within the University and reach their full potential.
* By maintaining strong links with other institutions and training providers.
* By the management of the University's Further Study Scheme.
