Optoelectronic and fibre sensor devices for communication and instrumentation systems including semiconductor lasers and semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). A particular interest is the modelling and application of SOAs, both as in-line amplifiers and as functional devices in optical networks. Current research topics include: SOA gate array modelling and characterisation, SOA analog detector, SOA gate array performance in WDM/TDM Networks, optical fibre cavity sensors and DSP techniques for laser based optical metrology
