Welcome to the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (E&CE). The mission of the Department is the pursuit of excellence in teaching and research in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

As electronics and computing now plays a vital role in every aspect of society, a degree in the strategically important Information Communication Technology area provides a strong foundation for a wide variety of careers. This variety of career opportunities is guaranteed by the extensive growth and application of electronics, computing and telecommunications in industry, commerce and science. The undergraduate and postgraduate courses on offer in the department are recognised worldwide and graduates of these programmes are ideally placed to pursue successful and rewarding careers in the ICT sector. 

At the undergraduate level the E&CE Department currently offers four Bachelor of Engineering programmes and two Bachelor of Science programmes. In addition to this five Taught Masters Degrees and a Graduate Diploma are also offered. More details can be found in the courses page.

Graduates of these strategically important programmes are highly sought after by industry and academic institutions. In fact, the Department is one of the largest suppliers of graduate engineers to Irish and multi-national ICT industries.

Research programmes leading to Masters and PhD Degrees, in a range of research topics are also undertaken. The current research constituents of the Department of E&CE have a spectrum of activities that incorporate:

·        basic research in producing novel sensors

·        innovations in microelectronic circuit design and implementation

·        broadband access networks

·        optical and wireless transmission

·        digital signal processing

·        radio frequency/microwave devices

·        networks protocols & software

·        real-time system formal design
