Mission
To advance the physical and social wellbeing of Irish children and youth through the creation and dissemination of knowledge on physical education, physical activity, and youth sport that informs policy and practice.
Core Values
- Understand the conditions that enhance children and youth's capacities for participation in a physically active lifestyle
- Pursue collaborative multi-disciplinary approaches to research on children's engagement in a physically active lifestyle

Future
The PE-PAYS Research Centre will be recognized nationally and worldwide for the quality and impact of its research in service to Irish teachers, teacher educators, coaches, coach educators, and policy makers in support of an inclusive physically active culture in Ireland's schools and communities. Research excellence will be enriched by an environment that supports a multidisciplinary approach to help solve challenges to children and youth engagement in physically active lifestyles.
The excellence of the Centre's research will be recognised by high levels of public and private support. As a result, the University of Limerick will earn respect and public esteem for its preparation and continued professional development of the highest quality physical education teachers and physical activity and sport professionals and its advocacy for the physical and social well being of the nation's children and young people regardless of gender, social class, ability, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.
