The Department of Psychology at the University of Limerick invites applications for 3 Four-Year PhD Scholarships commencing at the beginning of the the Academic Year 2012/2013
 

Available projects:

  • "Social identity and health: This project would relate to issues of control to how normative constructions of particular identities (e.g. passive identities and active identities) impact on key indicators of both mental and physical indicators of health.  Key psychological health outcomes of interest are outcomes related to mood/depression and trauma."  (Muldoon & Gallagher)
  • "The influence of emotions on thoughts and behaviour: Depression in comparison to other emotions."  (Msetfi & Igou)

  • "Explore experiences of recovery amongst adults with complex needs and histories of homelessness." (Greenwood)
  • "Learning about control and psychopathology. " (Msetfi)
  • "Understanding the dynamics of positive psychology interventions." (Gallagher & Ritchie)
     
  • "The Experience of Time in Mindful Awareness: An Examination of Cognitive Mechanisms and Practical Utility."  (Msetfi & Ritchie)
  • "When protecting the self hurts: Examining why negative emotions lead to unhealthy behavior."  (Van Tilburg & Igou)
     


Application requirements:

  • Applicants should have or expect to receive at least an upper second honours degree in psychology or in a related discipline.
  • A good grounding in psychological research methods is essential and experience in conducting qualitative research and/or experimental research is desirable. Selection will be made on academic merit.

 

The scholarships include:

  • A stipend and a contribution to UL fees for further information contact Dr. Eric Igou at eric.igou@ul.ie 


Students would be required to:

  • Undertake a maximum of 6 hours per week of teaching to undergraduates.
  • Submit proposals to obtain external funding and UL funding (fee waivers) for PhD studies.
