Each year teachers from all over Europe and from further afield come to the University of Limerick to develop their English language skills, their knowledge of Irish culture and/or their teaching skills. Many of the teachers who attend these courses receive funding from their schools or from such programmes as Comenius.
The University of Limerick Language Centre offers the following short teacher development programmes:
- Irish Literature and Culture for Teachers of English, NEW FOR 2010
Comenius - Grundtvig reference number IE-2009-125-002. This course consists of seminars and workshops. It is most suitable for teachers of English at secondary schools. Irish Literature and Culture for Teachers of English introduces participants to Irish culture and to some contemporary Irish writers in poetry and fiction.
- Writing Your Way to Better English for Teachers NEW FOR 2010
Comenius - Grundtvig reference number IE-2010-147-003. Suitable for teachers who would like to develop both their own writing skills and those of their students.
- Introduction to Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for Teachers
Comenius-Grundtvig reference: IE-2010-146-003. Suitable for language teachers, this course consists of seminars and workshops on a variety of themes. The Introduction to Content and Language Integrated Learning course will allow participants to practise using the applications, introduced in seminars, to reflect on how to integrate technology into their teaching and their students' learning.
