Junior Programme

English for Juniors is ideal for students between the ages of 11 and 16 years who would like to improve their English language skills and have an enjoyable cultural experience at the same time. The Junior Programme will take place on the University of Limerick campus, a safe and secure environment for all young people from around the world.

While having lots of fun it is hoped that English for Juniors will:

  • help students to improve their English language skills
  • give them the opportunity to experience life in Ireland
  • give them the chance to visit some of the most beautiful places in Ireland

This programme includes:

  • Tuition
  • Host family accommodation
  • On campus internet access
  • Access to the Language Resource Area
  • A full programme of activities and sports

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 11 and 16 years.
  • A parent/nominated guardian must complete an application form on behalf of the applicant.
  • Applicants must abide by the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment and the rules and regulations of the University of Limerick Language Centre.

Dates and Fees:

English for Juniors will run for 9 weeks from Monday 24 June to Sunday 25 August 2013.  Students can start on any Monday but please note the minimum course duration is two weeks.  For a full list of public holidays during this period log onto www.ul.ie/languagecentre.

English for Juniors costs €525 per week.

Accommodation

Accommodation, which is included in the cost of the course, will be provided with local host families.  Our host families are carefully selected, individually inspected and continually monitored.  They offer accommodation in comfortable and friendly homes within walking distance of the university.  A homestay experience can provide an insight into Irish life and culture with lots of opportunities to practice English.  Only one student of each nationality is placed in a family unless students request otherwise.  Single rooms are arranged unless otherwise requested and laundry is taken care of by the host family.   Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. Please note, one week covers 7 nights accommodation.  An extra charge will need to be paid for additional nights.

Insurance

Insurance is the responsibility of the applicants Guardian.  We advise all Language Centre participants to arrange medical insurance in their own country before departure.  EU nationals should bring their European Health Insurance Card.  Travel insurance is also recommended. It is important to check that all insurance documents are up to date and valid for the duration of the course.

Transport

Limerick is located just 20 kilometres from Shannon International Airport (SNN) and is easy to get to by bus or taxi.  Further information about Shannon Airport can be found online at www.shannonairport.com.  Limerick is also easily accessible from Dublin (DUB) and Cork (ORK) International Airports by bus or train.  For more detailed information log onto www.ul.ie/languagecentre.  Airport transfers can be pre-arranged with the Language Centre from all of these airports.  To arrange a transfer, please contact the Language Centre.  Transfers are not included in the cost of the course.

Regulations apply to ALL students under the age of 18, including EU students arriving at airports in Ireland.. Students should have all details of the school and accommodation arrangements in Ireland and the contact details of the person meeting them.  The person meeting such students should be over the age of 18, have photo identity and a letter of presentation from the school confirming that they have been authorised by the school to meet and transfer the student in question  In the event of the immigration authorities not being happy with the arrangments in place for the student (a minor) the student can be detained and handed over to the Irish Department of Health (HSE).
