The collection was developed by Helen Hooker O'Malley with her husband Ernie, both passionately committed to the arts and culture. It is in keeping with her belief in education and historical legacy that she donated her collection to the IACI and it satisfies that the Institute's support and encouragement of cultural initiatives that the collection is now on permanent, public display at the university. Parts of the O'Malley Collection have been placed on loan to other cultural institutions and galleries and was the subject of Orientalism and the Female Gaze in 2007.
