The Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 govern data protection and the privacy of personal information in Ireland.
The Acts provide rules on how personal information must be collected, used, stored and deleted in a responsible and secure way. These rules apply equally to personal data held in electronic and in paper formats.
To assist University staff and students to understand and comply with the Acts, the University has a Data Protection Regulations document and a supporting Data Protection Compliance Guide. Please browse to these using the menu on the left side of this screen.
Further information and advice on University-related Data Protection matters can be obtained from the UL Information and Compliance Office.
